SOS Africa Voted as Teacher Horizons Charity of the Year

SOS Africa is delighted to announce that their children’s education charity has recently been voted as Teacher Horizons “Charity of the Year” by their network of supporters across the world, resulting in the launch of an exciting new partnership.

SOS Africa Voted as Teacher Horizons Charity of the Year

Teacher Horizons is a community for international educators to explore teaching opportunities overseas and connect with schools all over the world. Each year they encourage their community members to vote on which charitable organisation they would most like Teacher Horizons to support. The philanthropic company then donates 10% of its profits and provides ongoing marketing support to the winning charity:

“Supporting education for less advantaged children is extremely important to our team and our community. We are delighted with our community’s choice to support SOS Africa as our charity partner this year for their work supporting underprivileged African children. We believe that there is much more to these partnerships than just our financial donation – we aim to promote the work of the organisations we partner with and help them get exposure and build connections. We look forward to sharing SOS Africa’s highlights and achievements over the months ahead.”  Alex Reynolds (CEO, Teacher Horizons).

Following the announcement, the Teacher Horizons team decided that it would like to invest its support in tutoring sessions for the SOS Africa children.

“This funding will enable SOS Africa to employ the services of experienced tutors to provide extra tuition for our children each weekday afternoon. Providing this extra support in subjects such as maths and science can give them the platform of understanding they need to succeed and progress.”  Matt Crowcombe (CEO, SOS Africa).

The high school children sponsored by SOS Africa in Somerset West recently started attending tutoring sessions hosted by experienced Maths Teacher, Thomas Kapfunde:

“Thomas has helped us learn simpler ways to tackle tricky equations. Our marks have been improving and we understand much more than before. We are actually starting to love maths!”  SOS Africa Somerset West High School Students Meyah, Quentin, Kim and Laytham.

The new partnership with Teacher Horizons will enable SOS Africa to make these classes available to children across all their education programmes in the Western Cape, South Africa.

“The additional exposure and publicity provided by the new partnership will also enable us to promote our events and child sponsorship schemes to a global audience. We greatly appreciate this support and look forward to working with the Teacher Horizons team over the coming months.”  Matt Crowcombe (CEO, SOS Africa).
