Olympic Crafting Lessons
We combined the crafting with a fun lesson on some Olympic lessons and trivia about the Olympic Flame and the Olympic Rings. The Olympic flame represents a number of things, including purity and the endeavour for perfection. The lighting of the Olympic flame is a practice continued from the ancient Olympic Games. It all starts at the ancient site of Olympia in Greece, where a flame is ignited at the Temple of Hera in Olympia by the sun rays reflected off a curved mirror, and then is kept burning until the closing of the Olympic Games.
The Olympic Rings represent the five major regions of the world – Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, and are interconnected to symbolise the friendship to be gained from these international competitions. The colours were chosen because at least one of them appeared on the flag of every country in the world.
