With the help of the charity’s dedicated drivers Davedeen, Lood, and generous child sponsors from around the world, on Christmas Eve, SOS Africa’s Matt, Claudia and Ted spent the day delivering festive food packages to the families of the charity’s sponsored children in the Western Cape.

The team were warmly greeted as the SOS Africa buses delivered boxes of locally sourced fresh fruit, vegetables and free ranged chickens to each and every sponsored family across the region, including a foster home and orphanage in Grabouw.
“We organised these surprise food deliveries because we know that many of our families struggle financially over the festive period. We also believe that everyone deserves to share a special meal with their family and friends at Christmas time! It was wonderful to be able to see the SOS kids and their families one last time before the summer break and wish them all a very Merry Christmas.” SOS Africa Founder/CEO Matt Crowcombe.
Shortly after the final package was delivered, SOS Africa’s WhatsApp Groups were inundated with messages of thanks…
“Hi SOS Team, thank you so much for the parcel you gave us! God bless you!”
“Thank you so much for the parcel you brought us yesterday, we appreciated it very much and hope you have a joyous Christmas and a happy new year. God bless you!”
“Our whole family would like to thank the SOS Team for the package yesterday, it is greatly appreciated! We hope you have a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year!”
The children’s education charity first began delivering food parcels during the first waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020 and continued to support many thousands of hungry families throughout South Africa’s disadvantaged communities in the months which followed. As the economic impact of the pandemic lessened, the charity phased out deliveries 18 months later. However, it was unanimously decided that one last surprise delivery would be made on the eve of Christmas.
“The work of SOS Africa would not be possible without the generosity of fundraisers and sponsors across the world. Thanks to their kindness, in addition to the holistic educational support we provide, we have also been able to safeguard the health and wellbeing of many vulnerable people from disadvantaged communities throughout the pandemic. On their behalf, I would like to thank all our sponsors for their constant support throughout the year! A very Merry Christmas from us all!”
