We are pleased to announce that SOS Africa has formed an exciting new partnership with Sir Lowry’s Pass Village Primary School in the Western Cape. The collaboration is the 4th of its kind in the region as the UK based children’s education charity seeks to expand the scope of its support to empower more and more disadvantaged Western Cape children through education.
Sir Lowry’s Pass Village itself is a suburban settlement with a population of approximately 12,000 residents. Known to many as the ‘forgotten community,’ although the village is surrounded by prosperity, most of the residents are unemployed whilst poverty, illiteracy and substance abuse are rife.
At the epicentre of the struggling community, with large class sizes and upwards of 1300 students, Sir Lowry’s Pass Village Primary School bears the brunt of the areas rapidly growing population. However, with great potential, an impressive campus and an inspiring principal, the charity was keen to collaborate with this school and support it through these challenges.
Wasting no time, SOS Africa has already funded the construction of a sanitation block for the school’s pre-primary students. Currently the school’s youngest attendees have to trek across campus to share facilities with the older children. We expect this project to be completed by the end of October.
In January 2022, 5 of SOS Africa’s very own scholarship scheme children will attend the school in Grade 1. In the afternoons they will be hosted by the charity’s new education centre at Gordon’s Bay. This facility is currently undergoing reconstruction and when complete, will accommodate all the charity’s education programmes in the region.
Sir Lowry’s Pass Village Primary School Principal Mr De Morney is delighted with the new partnership: “We are very pleased with the new collaboration and the potential it has for the educational advancement of the children of Sir Lowry’s Pass Village Primary School, especially for the Grade R learners already receiving brand new ablution blocks.”
SOS Africa CEO/Founder Matt Crowcombe sees the partnership as another significant milestone for the charity: “We are extremely proud to be able to support this community. The only way to raise the standard of living of the people of Sir Lowry’s Pass Village is to improve the standard of education available to their children. This process has already begun!”
