It is our pleasure to bring you news of an exciting new partnership formed in recent weeks between Jewel Fire Systems and SOS Africa; this will result in the establishment of SOS Africa’s first UK office from August 1st 2011.

A short while ago SOS Africa was contacted by Nick Link, the Managing Director of Jewel Fire Systems, an international fire safety product manufacturer. Himself a South African, Nick enquired as to how his company could best support the country in which he grew up, through SOS Africa. After much discussion, it was agreed that an exciting partnership will be formed between Jewel Fire Systems and SOS Africa which will provide our charity with a wide range of support to assist its future development.

Initially, this support has focused on the development of SOS Africa’s first UK office. Since its founding in 2003, the charity’s UK operations have been initiated by its trustees and volunteers from various locations across the UK. Although this has been successful, as the charity continues to grow, there has been an increasing need for the formal establishment of a UK office from where its operations can be coordinated. To date, this has not been possible because SOS Africa is unable to fund the renting, equipping and staffing of the office independently; we pledge that every penny donated to the charity must be invested in the futures of the children we support, all expenses are covered by Gift Aid. However, thanks to the support of Jewel Fire Systems, a solution has now been found, at no expense to the SOS Africa charity or its children.

From the 1st August 2011, SOS Africa will open its first formal UK office, at Kilver Court, Shepton Mallet, thanks to the support of Jewel Fire Systems. The office will be run by a full-time member of staff and volunteers. It will provide the charity with a main point of contact in the UK for current and perspective fundraisers and sponsors. It will also enable the charity to increase its UK and worldwide fundraising initiatives, improve communication with its sponsors and with its offices and staff in South Africa and ultimately increase the charity’s impact upon the lives of the country’s underprivileged children. In addition to the office itself, SOS Africa will also benefit from the excellent facilities available at Kilver Court, including its conference rooms, beautiful gardens and wide range of retail shops.

Additionally, Jewel Fire Systems have also agreed to assist SOS Africa with a wide range of future fundraising and marketing initiatives.

Whilst discussing the partnership, Nick Link commented: “We are delighted to be partnering SOS Africa, not only to support the great work they do already but also the vision they have to develop the programme in the future. SOS Africa’s visibility has never been greater and it is an exciting time to be involved with them. We hope the partnership will be beneficial for SOS Africa and the help from Jewel Fire Systems will dramatically increase the number of children who receive an education and an improved standard of living from them and their families through the SOS Africa programme”.

SOS Africa’s co-founder Matt Crowcombe added: “Thanks to this exciting new partnership with Jewel Fire Systems, we now believe that there is no limit to the amount of underprivileged children SOS Africa can support in the future. We are also delighted that the office will be established at Kilver Court in Shepton Mallet... Much of SOS Africa’s recent successes can be attributed to the support it has received from the local community here in Somerset. We would like to thank Nick and the Jewel Fire Systems team for their support and look forward to working with them in the future.”
