New SOS Africa Charity Shop to Open in Frome
02 Sep 2015
We are pleased to announce that this November a brand new SOS Africa Charity Shop will open its doors to the people of Frome. This exciting new shop will open for business on Saturday 14th November and we would like to invite you all to come and say hello.
Based at the foot of the bustling Cheap Street, the new shop will be colourfully decorated and well-stocked with a variety of exciting but affordable items which will attract an array of customers, in keeping with our philosophy that charity shops should be places where you can spend loose change and pick up a bargain.
In recent years the charity has received invaluable support from the people of Frome and its surrounding areas. On December 31st 2013 we organised a memorable “Out of Africa” New Year’s Eve Party at the Cheese and Grain which attracted a crowd of over 300 people and raised invaluable funds for the charity. A number of Frome residents are also participating in our upcoming “Nominate an Inmate” Event at Shepton Mallet Prison.
If you have ever visited one of our shops, you will have seen that they have a very unique identity. Our current charity shop in Shepton Mallet known by many as “Aladdin’s Cave” for instance, has a very child-friendly character and personal approach, with African animal paintings painted by our Graphic Designer Claudia Titley, a giant giraffe named Monduli and a monkey fundraising meter which keeps customers up to speed with the shop’s current fundraising total.
The charity’s Director, Matt Crowcombe, a Frome resident, is extremely proud to be opening a charity shop in his hometown: “Having bucked the national trend of high street decline, Frome is a busy place with an exciting array of shops and businesses. We feel privileged to be able to open a shop there and look forward to re-introducing the charity to its people.”
“We leave the final verdict to our customers. The other day a little girl visited us, turned to her mother and said: “Mummy are we in Africa?” With the help of Claudia’s artistic flare, we are confident that our new shop in Frome will have a similar reaction.”
