The SOS Africa Charity's 100m Cranmore Tower Zip Wire Challenge
14.Sep.2013 - 22.Sep.2013
This summer, Somerset’s very own SOS Africa Charity is challenging local individuals, businesses and groups to take on a thrilling 100 metre Zip Wire Challenge from the top of Cranmore’s iconic tower (the height of ten giraffes – 148ft), to raise funds for the SOS Africa children.
Last year the Shepton Mallet based charity challenged the local community to abseil the height of ten giraffes from the very same tower. Over the course of the two day event, 160 abseilers from schools, Rotary and WI Groups, fire stations, quarries, accountants, community groups, and many local businesses successfully completed the challenge and raised an incredible £13,000 for the SOS Africa children! Following the event, many participants dared us to find an even greater challenge for the summer of 2013…
Therefore, on the weekends of the 14th/15th and 21st/22nd September, to celebrate its 10th anniversary and as part of its campaign to ‘secure 100 years of education in Africa,’ SOS Africa will be hosting its largest charity fundraising event to date. For the first time ever, from 9am to 5pm each day, we will be giving teams of 6 the opportunity to zip down a 100m wire from the top of Cranmore Tower into a clearing in the nearby woods.
This is a unique occasion for groups and individuals to do something amazing for charity whilst having great fun with family and friends at the same time. It is also an ideal team building exercise for local businesses!
To enter a team or individual into the event, contact SOS Africa by email: [email protected], or by phone: 07855355926 with the following information:
- The African themed name of your team of six.
- Your preferred Zip Wire date and time - between 9am to 5pm each day.
- Send us a £10 entry fee per person (Cheques to ‘SOS Africa’, 21 High Street, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 5AA.)
Please carry out the above by Monday 2nd September – times will be allotted on a ‘first come first serve basis.’ Participants must be 8 years of age or older - if under the age of 18, a parent/guardian must be present.
SOS Africa will then send you a Fundraising Pack including:
- Paper sponsorship forms.
- Your online fundraising page address.
- SOS Africa information leaflets.
- Your confirmed Zip Wire time.
In order to make the event successful, we ask that you aim to raise at least £50 in sponsorship per person.
Why not make it a family day-out? Feel free to bring friends and family along to the event to witness your daredevil deeds! The tower is set in wonderful surroundings and it is the ideal venue for a family picnic. We will also have refreshments on sale. If your friends are not as adventurous as you, do not despair; there will also be time set aside for individuals take on the challenge.
For an added challenge why not come in fancy dress? It is a great opportunity to gain your business coverage in the local press or just get yourselves a bit more attention in the pub afterwards! There will be a prize for the best dressed group. There is pride at stake, as local pubs, businesses and friends compete to conquer SOS Africa’s Ultimate Zip Wire Challenge. So whether you are a lazy lion, a cheeky chimp, a cranky croc, a menacing meerkat or a prickly porcupine, you can be a hero for an underprivileged township child this summer!
As an added incentive, don’t forget that this year SOS Africa will also award its top fundraiser for 2013 with two tickets to South Africa to meet the SOS Africa children! Click here for more information…
