Puppet Making with the SOS Africa Children in Somerset West

30 Apr 2018

The children in our Somerset West Aftercare Club have had great fun making puppet friends. Not only is this a brilliant creative project but it also encourages imaginative play. We have been giggling listening to the funny voice impressions the children have come up with their puppets, not to mention the things they seem to feel more comfortable saying as the puppet instead of as themselves...

Anyway, the first step was to outline patterns on our chosen fabrics. It really helps to do this with a friend as an extra pair of hands to hold down the design is very helpful!

After lots of "snip-snip snipping" and "chop-chop-chopping" we had our patterns cut out and ready. All the tedious work called for a quick break and snack under the tree outside.

Refuelled and refreshing we set back to work stitching our fabric together and sticking decorations on our puppets.

What do you think of our puppets? We still need to give them names - can you give us some ideas?

Thank you to Teacher Tenille and Eden for organising such a fun project for us :)
