Run the 2012 Cardiff Half Marathon for SOS Africa
Be an SOS Africa’s Child’s Olympic Hero and You Could Win Two Tickets to South Africa!
Since the founding of SOS Africa by a Swansea University student back in 2003, every year individuals from South Wales and beyond have joined together to take on a 13.1 mile challenge to raise critical funding for the SOS Africa charity. Since our very first Cardiff Half Marathon, we have raised an incredible £47,000 for the SOS Africa children!
Last year’s race was SOS Africa’s most successful fundraising event to date, during which 65 runners raised an incredible £12,000 for the charity! It was also made extra special, because for the first time, we offered the team’s top fundraiser two flight tickets to South Africa to meet the SOS Africa children. Once the final sponsorship was collected we were delighted to announce that Kelly Roberts and Tania Gulliford were the deserved winners of the tickets having individually raised £1050:
“We absolutely love everything about this charity. The fact that 100% of the donations are paid directly towards the education and care of the children makes it unique to all others that we have supported over the years. We had so much fun raising money for the Cardiff Half Marathon and winning the tickets was just the icing on the cake. We cannot wait to go and visit the children and see for ourselves exactly what the money has done. I have no doubt that this trip will change our lives for the better.” (Kelly Roberts and Tania Gulliford)
It was initially thought that the 2011 race would be the last time that SOS Africa would take a team to the race. However, following the success of the event, we received many requests from past runners to enter a team for the event in 2012:
“We had such a fun day and would love to do it again next year! Thank you for organising a brilliant day!” (Emma Mckay)
We have therefore decided to keep the Cardiff Half Marathon as the charity’s official annual fundraising event. On October 14th 2012, SOS Africa will be taking its 8th team to tackle the streets of Cardiff and raise funds to provide education and care for the SOS Africa children. In addition, to celebrate the UK’s hosting of the Olympic Games, this year’s team will have a special Olympic theme. We are also once again offering TWO RETURN FLIGHT TICKETS TO SOUTH AFRICA TO MEET THE SOS AFRICA CHILDREN, but this time for every £300 raised, runners will receive a draw ticket; therefore if you raise £600 you will have two chances of winning. We will then hold a special prize draw shortly after the fundraising deadline at 6pm on Sunday 28th October 2012, and announce the winner of the tickets and the other special prizes.
